Our Story

The destruction caused by the opioid crisis devastated families. We became one of those families on August 22, 2015. My youngest son, Seneca (Birdman), would not survive his addiction. He passed away at age 34 from complications related to a substance use disorder. But that wasn’t the end of Seneca’s story. At the cemetery, I declared that I did not bury my son. I planted a seed. That seed grew into the 5K Bird Walk for Recovery, held every September during National Recovery Month to support the individuals and families in recovery and the agencies that help support them.

Our Vision

Our vision is an enhanced quality of life for individuals and families impacted by co-occurring mental health and addictive disease disorders. We envision a community in which recovery is possible for everyone when they have access to the education, support, and treatment they deserve.

Our Mission

To build healthier lives by reducing the impact of substance use and mental health disorders and providing evidence-based means for recovery. In doing so, we aim to;

  • Educate individuals and families struggling with substance use and mental health disorders on how to access treatment.

  • Advocate for the recovery community by encouraging families and communities to break the silence, ending addiction and mental health-related stigma.

  • Promote organizations and legislation aimed at reducing the devasting impact of substance use and mental health disorders on our communities.
